Legend of Grimrock 2 is a dungeon crawling role-playing game with a modern execution and an old-school heart, developed and published by the Finnish studio Almost Human and released in October 2014. A group of four prisoners has been shipwrecked on the secluded Isle of Nex. The island is filled with ancient crumbled ruins, mysterious shrines and a vast underground network of dungeons and mines. If the prisoners wish to make it out alive, they have to overcome the challenges devised by the ominous mastermind of the island, who watches their every step and leaves notes, riddles and traps along the way.

Powers of perception and logic matter more than sheer force here, because the game puts a heavy emphasis on exploration, survival and challenging puzzles. Movement is grid-based, and thousands of squares are filled with hidden switches, pressure plates, secret doors, riddles and deadly traps. You walk in ancient forests full of mysterious magical statues, fight the denizens of swamps that fume with poison, dive into the Forgotten River in search of treasure and uncover secrets hidden deep below the surface. Discovering powerful artefacts in hidden chambers and buried treasure is a constant reward for careful observation and patient mapping.

Combat happens in highly tactical real-time fights. You create a party of four characters and customize them with 7 character classes, 5 races and numerous skills and traits, then collect experience to hone their abilities and find better equipment and magical artefacts. Your champions fight murderous monsters with a wide variety of melee, ranged and thrown weapons as well as firearms, cast spells by combining runes and craft enchanted potions and bombs. There are 42 kinds of monsters, including 30 new foes unique to the Isle of Nex, and compared with its predecessor the game offers more depth, variety and open-ended exploration, along with enhanced AI, spell casting, puzzle mechanics and skill systems.

The campaign offers more than 20 hours of pure dungeon crawling, and the included Dungeon Editor lets you design, share and play custom scenarios with your own puzzles, traps, items, monsters and environments, even with custom graphics and audio. The game runs on Windows and macOS and is available in English.
