About Main Assembly
Main Assembly is a robot building sandbox developed by Bad Yolk Games and published by Team17, released on 26 January 2021. You are the designer, engineer and architect: if you can imagine it, you can create it. Construct robots of any shape or size, from eight-legged spider bots to eerie UFO contraptions, single-wheel rollers and heavy wheeled crawlers, then send them out to see whether your ideas actually work in the real world of physics.
Building happens inside a clear construction grid where frames, joints, wheels, thrusters and other parts snap together. Once a chassis stands, you engineer each and every appendage with powerful visual programming, letting you dictate the bot’s every move. You do not need to write any code, since the system is entirely optional, but if you are up to the challenge it lets you create surprisingly clever behaviour, from walking gaits to automatic steering.
When you have completed your masterpiece, open the world builder and craft the ultimate obstacle course to push your bot to its limit. Create racing tracks or complex courses that tease out all those design flaws you did not know you had, set in deserts, harbours and test facilities. A single-player mode with more than 100 challenges tests your inventions, and you can design worlds and test bots together with up to three other players in shared sessions.
Beyond your own workshop, you can add or take from thousands of already created bots and worlds hand-crafted by dedicated inventors all over the globe, and the built-in level editor keeps the possibilities wide open. If you want to test the limits of your construction, drive it off a cliff and see what survives. Main Assembly runs on 64-bit Windows with achievements and cloud saves, and is rated USK 12.
