About Moonlighter

Moonlighter is an action RPG with roguelite elements developed by Digital Sun and published by 11 bit studios in 2018. You play as Will, a young shopkeeper who runs the Moonlighter, a humble store in the small merchant village of Rynoka. Long ago, archaeologists uncovered mysterious Gates near the village, each leading into a different dimension full of monsters and treasure. Will dreams of becoming a hero and of opening the last, legendary door that no one has ever passed through. To get there, he has to balance two very different lives.

By night, Will explores the dungeons behind the Gates. Their rooms are randomly arranged on every visit, so each run feels fresh. You fight creatures with swords, spears, bows, gloves and big swords, dodge roll out of danger and gather valuable loot. Space in the backpack is limited, and some items carry curses that change how they can be stored, so every trip becomes a small puzzle of what to keep and what to leave behind. At the end of each dungeon waits a powerful guardian whose patterns you must learn to survive.

By day, the adventure turns into a shop. You place your loot on the shelves and set the prices yourself. Customers react to every price with a happy, neutral or angry face, so you slowly learn what each item is really worth. Watch out for thieves, keep up with changing demand and use the profit to grow the business. The money funds new weapons and armor from the blacksmith, potions and enchantments from the witch, and upgrades that bring new merchants to Rynoka. Running the store well is the key to diving deeper into the dungeons.

Moonlighter wraps everything in beautiful hand-crafted pixel art and a warm soundtrack, with a gentle story told through notes, characters and the village itself. The loop of exploring, selling and upgrading is easy to learn and very hard to put down. It is a single-player adventure that suits fans of Zelda-like combat and of cozy management games alike. The GOG version runs on 64-bit Windows 7, 8 or 10 as well as macOS and Linux. Grab your broom, open the doors and find out what lies behind the fifth Gate.
