About Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword

Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword is a standalone expansion in the Mount & Blade series, developed and published by TaleWorlds and released on 3 May 2011. It is built on the combat system of Mount & Blade: Warband and moves the series into 17th-century Eastern Europe, a time when gunpowder weapons were changing the way wars were fought. The result keeps the familiar mix of open sandbox role-playing and large mounted battles, now with the noise and smoke of musket volleys on the field.

The biggest change is the arrival of firearms. Muskets and pistols join swords, sabres and lances, pistols can be carried as sidearms, and grenades add another option in close fighting. Battles become a balance between reloading infantry, fast cavalry and melee troops, and the right formation can decide a clash. Siege warfare has also been expanded with new options, so taking a fortified town can be approached in more than one way.

The game is an open sandbox in which you choose your own allies and enemies, fight over provinces and decide which cities to besiege. Alongside that freedom, three main story quest-lines draw on the novel With Fire and Sword by Henryk Sienkiewicz, and the story has multiple endings depending on your choices. You build and customize your own army, recruit and train troops, and can use historical research to improve your forces as your reputation grows.

Besides the single-player campaign, the game includes online multiplayer, including a Captain mode in which each player leads a squad of soldiers. The GOG version runs on Windows and supports English, German, French, Polish, Turkish, Russian and Simplified Chinese. For players who enjoy Mount & Blade and want a historical setting with gunpowder warfare, sieges and a story rooted in classic literature, With Fire and Sword offers a distinct and rewarding chapter of the series.
