About Not The Robots

Not The Robots is a roguelike stealth game developed by 2DArray and published by tinyBuild. Steam release date: 12 December 2013.

You are a robot in an office building, and your job is to eat the furniture without getting caught. The trick is that furniture is also your only cover, so every chair you swallow makes the room a little more dangerous. Machine-gun guards, spotlights, lasers and bombs patrol seven buildings of procedurally generated, increasingly brutal floors, with permadeath and a stock of gadgets to master. Short, medium and long modes fit any session, while a fully voiced story slowly explains the odd setting.

Key Features

  • Eat to win – furniture is the goal and cover.
  • Procedural floors – seven buildings in the campaign.

  • Gadgets – tricks to fool guards.
  • Voiced story – a mysterious setting.

Related Games

Stealth with a procedural twist is what ties Not The Robots to Heat Signature, where you board randomly generated spaceships, slip past guards and improvise your way out when a plan falls apart. Styx: Shards of Darkness keeps the idea of a small, vulnerable hero sneaking through rooms full of armed guards, only with a goblin thief and hand-built levels instead of a hungry robot. If the absurd premise was the real draw, Octodad: Dadliest Catch turns hiding in plain sight into slapstick as an octopus pretends to be a normal dad, and Door Kickers 2: Task Force North offers the same top-down view of guarded floors but asks you to plan every breach like a tactical puzzle.
