About Octodad: Dadliest Catch
Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a comedy adventure about destruction, deception and fatherhood, developed and published by Young Horses. You control Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his daily life. His existence is a constant struggle, because he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while keeping his cephalopod nature a secret from his human family. In this sequel to the original Octodad, the hero finds himself in a bind between his wife’s mounting mistrust and a disastrous trip to the local aquarium. Are you dad enough to control the titular octopus father as he hides his nautical nature and keeps his tangled tentacles intact?
The series began in October 2010, when a group of university students released the original Octodad. Despite everyone being convinced that the game was about a normal human dad, it became a cult hit, gained critical acclaim and was an Independent Games Festival Student Finalist in 2011. The project received enough attention that the team ran a Kickstarter campaign, formed the studio Young Horses and set out to create a bigger, better and more polished game about Octodad. Two and a half years after production began, Octodad: Dadliest Catch was released in January 2014, ready to flop awkwardly into the arms of players who enjoy offbeat humour.
Octodad’s wacky physics create hilarious moments that are different every time. Each limb is controlled separately, so walking across a room, climbing stairs or carrying a cup becomes a comic challenge. You can be surprised by the randomness of his flailing or express your own sense of humour by making him do ridiculous things. The game is full of physics toys to play with, including jointed objects, springs and slippery surfaces. You live through a full day in Octodad’s life, from a church wedding and the family home to a grocery store and beyond, so you venture far outside the house while trying not to make a scene.
The visual style is inspired by the American 1950s aesthetic, but with futuristic twists, which gives each location a bright and cheerful look. Brave the unknown and push past awkwardness to prove your worth as a husband and father. The GOG version also includes the OctodadEditor for Windows, so you can make your own levels and keep the fun going after the story ends. It supports English (with full audio), Polish, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Hungarian, Romanian, Korean and Simplified Chinese and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a great choice for anyone who enjoys physics comedy, unusual heroes and short, joyful adventures that are easy to replay for laughs.
