One Step From Eden is a genre-bending action game developed by Thomas Moon Kang and published by Balor Games and Maple Whispering Limited, released on 26 March 2020. Eden is the last shining beacon of hope in a bleak post-war world, and every run is an attempt to reach it. The game combines strategic deck-building and real-time action with rogue-like elements, giving you the chance to carve a path of mercy or destruction along the way.
Battles take place on a tiled grid split between you and your enemies. You move freely across your half while spells from your deck cycle into your hands, and you cast them on the fly to hit foes, shield yourself or reshape the field. Enemy attacks fill the grid with projectiles and lasers in a bullet-hell style, so quick reflexes matter just as much as smart deck choices, and every second of a fight asks you to dodge and attack at once.
Between fights you customize your deck and play style with more than 200 spells and over 100 game-changing items. A cast of 9 playable characters, each with alternate runs, explores procedurally generated levels, which ensures you will never face the same situation or outcome twice. Evolving enemies and bosses push you to adapt, and the decision to spare or destroy them changes how the journey ends.
You can fight alone or share the screen with a second player, either side by side or in PvP duels. Mod support keeps the game going with community-made content long after the credits.
