Ranch Simulator: Build, Hunt, Farm is an open-world simulation about bringing a family ranch back to life. It was developed by Toxic Dog, published by Excalibur Games and released in full for Windows on 3 November 2023. The ranch was once your grandfather’s pride and joy, but it has fallen on hard times. Sitting in a remote forested valley, the run-down homestead needs a lot of work, and it is up to you to turn it into the most prosperous ranch in the region. You can take on the job alone or together with up to three other players.
Rebuilding comes first. The years have not been kind to the property, so restoring it takes both time and money. You buy tools at the local hardware store and pick up vehicles from the garage to help with bigger projects. The main house needs renovating, and you decide which animals to keep before building the barns, pens and runs that will hold them. Seeing a broken roof or a collapsed wall turn into a solid building is one of the most satisfying parts of the game.
Livestock keeps the money flowing. Grand building projects need funding, and that comes down to your skills as a rancher. Once you have chosen your animals, regular feeding and watering keeps them healthy. Careful breeding and rearing of the young helps your herds and flocks grow, and the more produce you sell, the more you earn for your hard work. The ranch can expand further with crops, sausages and cheese, and you can even train horses and sell them.
Beyond the fences lies a large open world full of wildlife. When you want a change of pace, you can take a rifle into the forest to stalk deer and hunt bears. The wilderness follows its own rules, though, and you are not the only hunter in the area. Hungry wolves may come looking for your animals, so a steady hand and sharp eyes are needed back at the ranch as well. This mix of quiet work and sudden danger keeps each day in the valley varied.
Ranch Simulator rewards patience and planning. Each improvement opens new options, and the loop of building, raising, producing and selling slowly turns a ruin into a thriving business. The game supports full controller play and offers text in many languages, including English, Polish, German, French, Italian and Spanish. It is rated USK 12 in Germany. The minimum specification asks for 8 GB of RAM and a DirectX 12 card, so check your hardware before starting your new life in the valley.
