About Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 is a fast 2D platformer developed and published by SEGA, released on 14 May 2012. It continues the story begun in Episode I and takes the blue hedgehog straight back to the speedy side-scrolling action that made the series famous on 16-bit consoles. Dr. Eggman has returned with a brand new plan, and this time he has rebuilt Sonic's old rival Metal Sonic to help him. To stop them both, Sonic is joined by his best friend Miles 'Tails' Prower for the whole adventure.

The biggest change compared with the first episode is that Tails is always at your side. The two heroes can combine their skills in special combo moves: the Copter Combo lets Tails carry Sonic through the air to reach high ledges, the Submarine Combo pushes the pair quickly underwater, and the Rolling Combo turns them into an unstoppable ball that smashes through enemies and obstacles. These moves open new routes through each level and add a fresh layer to the classic loops, springs and rings that fans already know and love.

The journey takes the duo through brand new zones such as Sylvania Castle, White Park, Oil Desert and Sky Fortress, each split into several acts and topped off with a creative boss battle against one of Eggman's machines. The levels are full of alternate paths, hidden rings and secret areas that reward replaying them at top speed. Red Star Rings are hidden across the stages for completionists, and the rebuilt graphics engine gives the world rich detail and smooth movement while keeping the familiar gameplay feel of the original classics.

Episode II can be played alone, but a friend can also take control of Tails in local co-op on the same screen or in online co-op, and there are online modes for racing each other through the stages. Owners of Episode I unlock a bonus called Episode Metal, a set of short levels that tell Metal Sonic's own story. The game supports a controller, offers leaderboards and achievements, and is rated USK 6, making it a cheerful choice for younger players and longtime fans alike.
