About The Last Blade 2

The Last Blade 2 is SNK’s legendary weapons-based fighting game, originally released in 1998 on the NEOGEO arcade and home system as the sequel to The Last Blade. Many players still consider it the pinnacle of sword fighting games, thanks to its beautiful hand-drawn sprites, painterly backgrounds and precise, deliberate combat. This PC version, ported with Code Mystics and released in November 2017, faithfully brings the original game to modern computers and adds online play so fighters from around the world can meet in epic duels.

The story takes place in the twilight of the samurai era, at the end of the Edo period in Japan. Hell’s Gate, the boundary between life and death, has been thrown open, and an ultimate spirit has awakened from the netherworld. Four warriors known as the Mythological Symbols must fight it to the death and send it back through the gate. Around them, swordsmen, ninjas, monks and wanderers follow their own destinies, and every route through the arcade mode reveals a different, often melancholic chapter of this mystical tale.

The roster counts 18 playable characters. Twelve returning combatants, including Kagami, the boss of the first game, are joined by four new faces and two hidden fighters. Each wields a distinctive weapon, from katanas and spears to staffs and chains, and each has a style that rewards a different way of playing. Before every match you also choose a sword attack type: Power mode focuses on heavy hits and strong special moves, Speed mode opens up flowing chain combos, and Extreme mode lets you mix elements of both for a hybrid approach.

Defence is just as important as attack. Master the Repel mechanic to deflect an opponent’s strike at the right moment and leave them open to a counter. When the time is right, unleash the Super Secret Slash, the Hidden Secret Slash or the Enigma Frenzy-Attack, ultimate techniques that can turn the outcome of a round. You can fight the computer in arcade mode, challenge a friend on the same screen, or take the battle online in ranked and casual matches with leaderboards and achievements. The game is rated 12.
