About Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War is a turn-based 4X strategy game developed by Proxy Studios and published by Slitherine in 2018. It is the first 4X game set in the grim darkness of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and it drops you onto the planet Gladius Prime, a world that was once occupied by the Imperium. When Ork forces suddenly appeared and the ancient Necrons began to awaken from their long slumber, the planet turned into a battlefield where only one faction can claim victory.
You choose one of four factions, each with its own units, buildings and playstyle: the Astra Militarum with their massed infantry and armour, the Space Marines as elite warriors of the Imperium, the brutal Ork hordes and the relentless Necrons. Every map of Gladius Prime is randomly generated, full of hostile wildlife, neutral threats and ancient artefacts that grant powerful bonuses to whoever claims them, so exploring the planet is as important as fighting on it.
The 4X loop covers founding and growing cities, raising fortifications, gathering resources and researching new technologies to unlock stronger units and abilities. Heroes lead your armies and can be equipped with items, while edicts and tactical operations let you shape the course of the war at a larger scale. Each faction also follows its own storyline with quests that guide you through the conflict, adding narrative goals to the sandbox of conquest and expansion.
You can fight against AI opponents or take the war online in multiplayer, either cooperating with allies or competing against other players. The GOG version supports cloud saves and runs on Windows and Linux. Combining classic 4X depth with the brutal atmosphere and iconic factions of Warhammer 40,000, Gladius offers long campaigns of exploration, expansion and total war for strategy fans and followers of the setting alike.
