About Alan Wake

Alan Wake is a psychological action thriller developed and published by Remedy Entertainment. The best-selling writer Alan Wake travels with his wife to the small town of Bright Falls for a vacation, but she disappears soon after they arrive. As he searches for her, he starts finding pages from a thriller he does not even remember writing, and the events they describe begin to come true around him. A Dark Presence stalks the town and the surrounding forests, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save the woman he loves.

The story is presented in the style of a TV series, complete with episodes, recaps, plot twists and cliffhangers, and it carries the trademark Remedy storytelling. As you dive deeper into the mystery, the line between the manuscript and reality grows thinner, and the quiet Pacific Northwest setting of lakes, mountains, logging roads and dense woods turns threatening once night falls. Exploration rewards attention, since manuscript pages and other details fill in the background of Bright Falls and its residents and hint at what is waiting further ahead.

Survival depends on the Fight With Light combat mechanic. Enemies possessed by the darkness are protected by it, so you first burn it away with the beam of your flashlight before your gun can harm them. Flares, flashbangs and other light sources become precious tools when you are surrounded, and street lamps and generators offer brief safe havens. Batteries and ammunition are limited, so every encounter becomes a tense balance of aiming the light, dodging attacks and choosing when to run. It is only by mastering this system that you stay one step ahead of the spreading darkness.

This PC edition includes the special episodes The Signal and The Writer, which continue the story after the main game. It lets you experience the Pacific Northwest in higher resolutions and higher fidelity, offers fully configurable mouse and keyboard controls or gamepad play, and adds many graphics settings with support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios, a field of view slider and an option to hide the HUD. The multithreaded engine takes advantage of quad-core processors. The GOG version runs on Windows and offers ten languages, ideal for fans of story-driven thrillers.
