About Balrum
Balrum is an old-school, hybrid turn-based open-world indie RPG with deep tactical combat from Balcony Softworks. It is twenty years after your village fled the kingdom and took refuge in Darkwood. You always knew that these woods hold dark secrets, but now you start to feel their evil on your own skin, as horrible things begin to happen. You discover fragments of the dark history of the forest and come to the conclusion that you have to leave your home. Once you step out of the protection of the place where you grew up, nothing will be the same again.
Ahead lies a world in chaos, a world without laws, and yet you feel something else too: freedom. A huge living fantasy world awaits, with dozens of dungeons to explore, dozens of side quests and an epic main quest, and three separate paths lead to the end. That sense of freedom quickly turns into guilt, because there are people in Darkwood who are counting on your help, and you are their last hope. The world moves in real time with a day and night cycle and weather effects, while combat switches to turns, so every fight becomes a careful tactical puzzle.
Character growth is flexible: you spend learning points to create a pure class or a hybrid of your own design. Beside the traditional RPG features, Balrum has a deep crafting system that lets you create custom items, from brewed potions in the alchemy window to weapons and armour. You can farm your own crops, build your own home and handle survival mechanics that ask you to eat and rest. You can also tame various animals and have a faithful companion at your side; your pet is fully controllable and adds a great deal of depth to the combat.
The top-down view shows foggy forests, ruined stone walls, torch-lit dungeons and peaceful farmsteads in a detailed hand-made style.
