About Cobalt Core
Cobalt Core is a sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder from Rocket Rat Games, released in 2023 and published by Brace Yourself Games. Its twist is a single-axis combat system: your ship and the enemy face each other, and every card you play can shift your position, raise shields or line up your cannons. The goal is to outmanoeuvre your foes, stay just ahead of calamity and reach the Cobalt Core.
Orders reach your crew through cards. Each turn you choose whether to raise shields to protect the hull, dodge incoming missiles and cannon fire to avoid damage outright, or strike first to disable the enemy’s weapons. Hitting weak points while slipping out of the line of fire turns every battle into a tense game of cat and mouse, and a single well-timed move can decide a fight.
Variety comes from your crew. You bring three characters along, each with a unique playstyle, personal story and deck, and their cards mix into one shared hand. Hundreds of cards with split upgrade paths, plus hundreds of character and ship combinations, mean no two runs feel the same. Daily Challenges add modifiers such as winning with a single character, and a narrative about the time loop unfolds and unlocks more playstyles as you go.
Cobalt Core runs on Windows and macOS and is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Chinese, with achievements, cloud saves and full controller support. More than 90 minutes of original music by Aaron Cherof keep the pace lively. The developers previously made Sunshine Heavy Industries, which received an IGF Honorable Mention for Excellence in Design.
