About Crop Rotation
Crop Rotation is a farming-themed card-drafting game with a dry sense of humour. It is developed and published by the small independent studio Sprouting Potato and was released in September 2023. The premise is simple: you have taken out a huge loan to buy an automated farm, the CR-3000. The farm should pay for itself, right? Right? Your job is to prove that it can, harvest after harvest, before the bank comes knocking.
Every crop is a card, and cards are played automatically onto your field. That design lets you focus fully on the interesting part: drafting the right cards and building a deck whose pieces work together. Okra might replace a random adjacent crop and gain value, tea leaves can mutate neighbours, and cauliflower earns a bonus when a spicy set is active. Vegetables, fruits, herbs and rare plants each carry their own tags and rules.
Between harvests you choose from three new cards or skip for a reward, and you can spend money to reroll the selection in search of that one perfect card. Contracts ask you to harvest a set number of wet, fruit or rare crops in exchange for extra rewards, adding small goals to each run. Meanwhile the next loan payment counts down, so every choice balances greed against safety. Spending everything on rerolls is always tempting.
The pixel-art interface is clean and readable, with clear icons for value, mutation and rarity, and runs are short enough for a quick session yet deep enough to reward planning. Once you have learned the basics, the rating mode challenges you to climb through tougher difficulty levels and push your best builds further. Crop Rotation is suitable for all ages and is rated 0.
