About En Garde!
En Garde! is a swashbuckler action game developed by Fireplace Games and published by Fireplace Games and Kepler Ghost. It was released on 16 August 2023 for Windows. You battle graceless guards and nefarious noblemen in fast-paced fights full of spectacle, using the environment, your wit and your blade to teach them all a lesson. The tone is light and comic, inspired by the golden age of swashbuckling adventure stories.
From the forgotten pages of history comes Adalia de Volador, legendary swashbuckler, dashing adventurer and hero of the people. You play as Adalia in her daring escapades full of sword-fighting, satire and shenanigans, challenging the cruel Count-Duke and opposing tyranny with panache. Beautifully painted locations, charismatic characters and an astounding amount of battle banter carry you through marketplaces, dungeons and palaces.
Fencing with flair is at the heart of every fight. You parry, riposte and lunge your way to victory, and fighting with style fills the Panache Meter that unlocks special skills. Challenging, ever-changing encounters push you to rely on cunning and acrobatics, learning enemy weaknesses to toy with them. Combat areas are playgrounds full of opportunities, from rolling barrels to falling chandeliers, that let you surprise, stun or evade your foes.
Story Episodes tell the tales of Adalia with unique challenges to complete and secrets to uncover, while Arena Mode unlocks zany game-changing modifiers and randomized scenarios against waves of enemies. The game began as an award-winning student prototype, and the original team reformed as Fireplace Games to expand its scope. Full controller support and cloud saves are included.
