About Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is a quirky mystery puzzle adventure in which you play a ghost trying to solve his own murder. This HD remaster was developed and published by Capcom and released on 29 June 2023 for Windows. The original game was directed by Shu Takumi, the creator of the Ace Attorney series, and this version brings his much-loved story back with upgraded visuals, improved sound and a few welcome extras for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
The story opens with a single gunshot in a dark city. Sissel wakes up as a ghost and quickly realises that he has lost his memory along with his life. Who was he, who killed him and why? He has only a few hours until sunrise, when his spirit will fade for good, to find the answers. His investigation begins with a young detective who may have witnessed the crime, and soon pulls him into a much larger web of secrets, strange characters and surprising twists that unfold across one long, eventful night.
The powers of the dead are the heart of the puzzles. As a ghost, Sissel can jump into nearby objects, such as a lamp, a guitar, an umbrella or a folding chair, and trigger small actions with them. Each scene becomes a clever chain reaction, where you hop from object to object and time your tricks so that a falling item, a rolling ball or a sudden noise changes what happens next. When someone dies, Sissel can travel back to the four minutes before their death and try to rewrite their fate, which gives every chapter a tense race against the clock.
Beyond the puzzles, the game is full of warm, eccentric humour and memorable characters, from determined detectives to a loyal little dog. The remaster adds new music arrangements by Yasumasa Kitagawa, composer of The Great Ace Attorney, and they are synchronised with the original tracks so you can switch between both versions at any moment during play. A new gallery of artwork and music lets you revisit favourite moments after the credits. The game supports mouse and keyboard as well as a controller, and it is rated USK 6.
