About Gods Will Be Watching

Gods Will Be Watching is a minimalistic point and click thriller developed by the Spanish studio Deconstructeam and published by Devolver Digital in 2014. It centres on despair, commitment and sacrifice as you face narrative puzzles and moral dilemmas that affect both the lives of your team and the people you are sworn to protect. Set against the backdrop of an interstellar struggle, the story follows Sergeant Burden and his crew through six tense chapters linked together by an epic narrative of interstellar espionage.

Each chapter is an intimate, tension-filled scenario with its own rules. You move from a hostage situation to survival in the wilderness, from preventing the spread of a biological weapon to agonising interrogation scenes. In every situation you juggle several pressures at once, such as the mood of your hostages, the health and sanity of your crew or the supplies that keep everyone alive. Every action changes the balance, and one careless choice can end the chapter and force you to start again.

There is no good or evil, only decisions, with you and the gods as the only judges of your actions. Do you intimidate or comfort your hostages to keep control of the situation? Should the weakest member of the party be sacrificed so that the strong have enough food? What is one life worth when the whole world faces annihilation? These questions are not abstract: the game turns them into mechanics, and the consequences of your choices carry through the story of Burden and his team.

When you fail, you receive the judgement of the gods, and you can compare your decisions with those of other players around the world. More than 1,500 carefully drawn sprites tell the story against 15 detailed backgrounds, supported by an emotionally stirring orchestral soundtrack. The GOG version runs on Windows and Linux and offers audio and text in English, German, Spanish, French and Brazilian Portuguese. For players who enjoy difficult, thought-provoking adventures where every decision weighs heavily, Gods Will Be Watching is a memorable and demanding experience.
