About IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz Edition
IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz Edition is a combat flight simulator set during the Battle of Britain in 1940, the decisive air campaign of the Second World War. Released in December 2017 and published by Fulqrum Publishing, it is the completely revised re-release of the original Cliffs of Dover, rebuilt by the community studio Team Fusion with DirectX 11 graphics, new aircraft and reworked flight and damage models. It is the classic choice for pilots who want to fly the Battle of Britain in detail.
You can climb into the cockpits of the Royal Air Force and fly Spitfires and Hurricanes to intercept incoming raids, or join the large formations of the Luftwaffe in the Bf 109 and Bf 110. The Italian Regia Aeronautica is present too with the Fiat G.50 and the BR.20 bomber. Bomber and attack crews can take the controls of the Junkers 88, the Heinkel 111, the Stuka, the Bristol Blenheim or the Beaufighter, each with its own handling and tactical role.
In total there are more than 47 flyable aircraft types and variants plus 16 further non-flyable types, so every major participant of the battle is represented. Interactive cockpits let you work switches and levers by hand, and the detailed engine model asks you to manage mixture, pitch, radiators and boost the way real pilots did. The damage model tracks individual hits on structure, systems and crew, which makes every engagement tense and unpredictable.
The 350 by 350 km map covers London, the whole of south-east England, the English Channel, northern France and part of Belgium, with historical landmarks, airfields and moving traffic on roads, railways and sea lanes. Additional autumn and winter maps carry the fighting into late 1940. Single-player campaigns and a flexible Full Mission Builder sit beside large online servers with more than 100 human pilots plus AI aircraft. The game is rated 12 for combat violence.
