About Smart City Plan

Smart City Plan is a city builder developed and published by the independent studio Ambiera and released in 2020. It takes the classic formula of old-school city building games and modernizes it with fresh ideas about sustainability and technology. You start with an empty piece of land and a few roads, mark out areas where citizens can build their homes, shops and companies, and watch a small settlement grow into a busy metropolis. The game runs in real time, but you can pause or speed it up at any moment, so you are always in control of the pace.

Zoning is the heart of the game. You can designate commercial, industrial, agricultural and office areas, along with three types of residential zones, and balance them so that people have jobs, services and pleasant places to live. As your city expands, you need to take care of pollution, noise, crime, waste, water and energy, and the right mix of infrastructure buildings keeps everything running smoothly. An assistant guides you through the basics, which makes the first steps easy even if you have never played a city builder before, while experienced mayors can dive straight into deeper planning.

Transport is one of the strongest features. You can build bus lines, trams, trains, subways and even a futuristic hypertube, and an intelligent road and rail building method helps you solve traffic problems. Beyond construction, you decide policies on energy and water usage, insulation and taxes, and you can write laws about speed limits, pollution, anti-corruption and more. Smart city technologies let you turn the city literally green with living walls on buildings, and you can attract special industries such as space companies, build bridges, stations and even space ports.

Smart City Plan is a single-player game that suits players who enjoy calm planning, numbers and the satisfaction of a well-organized city. Tracking financial data and analyzing problems is part of the fun, and the unlockable sandbox mode lets you place every building exactly where you want it once you have mastered the systems. With its tiny download size and light hardware needs, it is also a great option for older computers and laptops. If you have fond memories of classic city simulations and want something simple to start but rich to master, this is a fine choice for your next metropolis.
