The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the cult-classic 2002 third-person survival horror shooter, remastered by Nightdive Studios and published by Nightdive Studios and Atari on 5 December 2024. The original game was created by Computer Artworks as a sequel to the genre-defining 1982 film, and this version brings its blend of fast squad action and survival horror to modern systems with antialiasing, per-pixel lighting, 4K resolution and up to 144 FPS.
Where the movie ended, the true terror begins. You are Captain J.F. Blake, leader of a U.S. Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the blood-curdling events and mysterious deaths at the Outpost 31 research facility in the frozen wastes of Antarctica. There your team encounters a shape-shifting alien life-form that takes on the appearance of the people it kills, so any member of your squad might no longer be human.
Across 20 frightening levels you lead your team against scuttling head-spiders, human-like walkers and gigantic multi-tentacled beasts. An advanced trust and fear system tracks the psychological state of every team member, and how you influence them decides whether they will follow your orders. Machine guns, explosives and flamethrowers help you torch the enemy, while multiple paths let you choose how to solve problems, and new achievements and quality-of-life improvements round out the package.
