About Urtuk: The Desolation
Urtuk: The Desolation is an open-world, tactical turn-based RPG in a low-fantasy setting, developed and published by David Kaleta and released in full on 27 February 2021. You guide a band of adventurers through the ruins of an ancient world, recruiting new followers, looting the corpses of fallen foes and doing your best to survive in a harsh and unforgiving realm.
This world is a place of toil, suffering and darkness, with no elves, dwarfs or dragons and only light magical elements. Centuries ago Giants lived alongside humans until war left them extinct, and a cabal of scientists later learned to extract their Life Essence from ancient bones. The story begins when Urtuk escapes from the Sanatorium, where experiments with this fluid are carried out on abducted commoners, and sets out to find a cure for his worsening mutation.
Battles play out on large maps with environmental factors and a carefully crafted class and skill system. You can ram enemies onto spikes or over cliffs, shield allies, counterattack and mix archers with melee fighters for combo attacks. After a fight you extract skills and traits from fallen enemies and give them to your units, and characters also learn new skills by performing specific actions in battle.
It is a single-player tactical RPG with hand-drawn art for Windows, macOS and Linux. It runs on Windows XP or later, macOS, Linux and supports English, French, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. The minimum configuration requires Windows XP or later, a 2.0 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, an OpenGL 2.0 compatible graphics card with 256 MB of memory and 600 MB of available storage.
