About A Plague Tale: Innocence

A Plague Tale: Innocence, developed by Asobo Studio and published by Focus Entertainment, follows the grim tale of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo on a heartrending journey through the darkest hours of history. The plague ravages the Kingdom of France in the 14th century, and the two children are pursued by the Inquisition through villages devastated by the disease. Hunted by soldiers and surrounded by unstoppable swarms of rats, Amicia and Hugo slowly come to know and trust each other, and they fight to find purpose in a brutal, unforgiving world.

At the start of their adventure the siblings barely know one another, and much of the story is about the bond that grows between them on the road. Amicia often has to protect Hugo, leading him by the hand through quiet village streets or carrying him in her arms when danger is close. Aided only by the link that binds their fates together, they face untold horrors in their struggle to survive. Along the way they also join forces with other children who have been left alone in this ruined land, and each of these companions brings help and hope at a time when the adult world seems to have abandoned them.

The rats are the most terrifying threat of all. They pour out of the ground in vast, seething swarms that cover fields, ruins and battlefields, and they avoid only fire and light. Torches, braziers and other sources of flame become vital tools, because a safe circle of light can be the difference between life and death. At the same time the soldiers of the Inquisition search the villages and streets, so the siblings must stay out of sight, move with care and use their wits to evade both enemies. Every step through the darkness calls for patience and careful planning, and the tension rarely lets go.

The game paints a haunting picture of a medieval world struck by disease, with beautiful villages and countryside set against scenes of devastation. It is a story for adult players because of its strong violence and dark themes, which fit its rating. The game supports English, French and German (with full audio), as well as Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Italian, Polish, Czech, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (text) and runs on Windows. A Plague Tale: Innocence is an excellent choice for players who love story-driven adventures with stealth, strong characters and a gripping atmosphere, and for anyone looking for an emotional tale about family and survival. As their adventure begins, the time of innocence ends.
