About Cold Waters
Cold Waters is a submarine simulation developed and published by Killerfish Games. Inspired by the 1988 classic Red Storm Rising, it places you in command of a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent mutually assured destruction when the Cold War gets hot and World War III begins. The opening scenario sets the tone: after tracking a Soviet landing force bound for Iceland, it is time to plan your attack, weigh the risks and decide how your boat will strike and survive in hostile waters.
Every engagement is a question of approach. Do you silently close in to torpedo the landing ships and escape during the resulting chaos, or strike with long-range missiles and risk a counterattack from the enemy escorts? Have you detected every contact, or could another submarine be out there listening for you? That tension between hunter and hunted sits at the heart of the game. Your tasks include intercepting convoys, stopping amphibious landings, carrying out insertion missions and battling enemy warships, submarines and aircraft.
To keep the Iron Curtain at bay, your boat carries an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles, and the occasional SEAL team for special missions. The combat plays out in real time, and the game features more than 40 classes of ships and submarines, all meticulously researched. A realistic sonar model makes detection and stealth a core skill, while authentic Soviet combat tactics shape how the enemy reacts. The dynamic campaign means your performance matters, so each patrol carries real weight for what comes next.
Cold Waters runs on Windows and macOS. On Windows the minimum requirements are Windows XP, an Intel Atom processor, 2 GB of RAM, DirectX 9.0c and 2 GB of available storage. On macOS it needs OS X 10.6.3, a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel CPU, 2 GB of RAM, a Shader Model 3 capable graphics card and 2 GB of storage. The game is available in English.
