About D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator
D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator is a classic strategy game set in the legendary Dungeons & Dragons world, developed by Stormfront Studios and first released in 1993. In this remarkable kingdom simulator your goal is to become Emperor by building and expanding your own stronghold while competing against opposing computer-controlled kingdoms. It blends city building, economic management and fantasy warfare into a single campaign of growth, and it brings the familiar flavour of D&D, with its alignments, monsters and magic, into a hands-on management format that still feels distinctive more than three decades after its debut.
Three courses of action lead to the imperial throne. Lawful play means maximizing the prosperity and morale of your populace. Chaotic play means total military victory over all your enemies. Neutral play asks you to strive for both objectives at once, which the game itself calls the toughest challenge of all. This choice shapes how you plan your settlement from the first cottage onward, whether you invest in markets and granaries to keep people happy or pour resources into towers and troops to crush your rivals, and it gives each campaign a clear sense of purpose.
All the details of running a kingdom are in your hands: construction, farmland, population, housing, troops, morale and changing seasons, and of course a multitude of D&D monsters. You can build from a list of over 100 structures, including castles, forges, mines, marketplaces, towers, temples, cottages, schools of magic and granaries. If you want absolute control you can micro-manage every factor personally, or you can let the computer handle much of the routine work for you, which makes the game approachable for newcomers and still deep for veterans of the genre.
Battles are fully animated, and you face computer-controlled opponents as a single player. You can choose pre-created worlds or computer-generated random scenarios, so a new challenge awaits each time you start. The intuitive mouse-driven command interface keeps the pace quick and the controls easy to learn. This GOG release supports cloud saves and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux with modest hardware needs. For fans of Dungeons & Dragons and of classic kingdom builders, it is a piece of strategy history that still offers hours of planning, expansion and conquest.
