About Freedom Fighters
Freedom Fighters is an intense third-person action game from IO Interactive, first released in 2003 and set in an alternate history New York during the invasion of a foreign superpower. They took your freedom, and it is time to take it back. You play Chris Stone, a hard-working plumber who is drawn into the fight and rises through the ranks of the resistance to prove himself as a charismatic leader.
The heart of the game is its recruit and command system. As your reputation grows, more citizens join the cause, and you can lead up to 12 freedom fighters into strategic conflicts across the campaign. Simple orders send your squad to attack, defend or follow you, which turns every street fight into a small tactical battle against the occupying army.
Life in the resistance means making do with what you find. You liberate supplies, scavenge weapons and travel across the city between linked missions. Actions in one level affect the battles in another: sabotage a key target in one district and the enemy will be weaker when you push into the next. The music by acclaimed composer Jesper Kyd combines live choir performances by the Hungarian Radio Choir with techno beats and electronic instruments, capturing the mood of the fight to liberate the city.
