About Hungry Horrors
Hungry Horrors is a story-driven roguelite deckbuilder created by Clumsy Bear Studio, a small team of two developers, and released on 13 October 2026 for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its premise is delightfully strange: monsters from British and Irish folklore have awoken hungry, and the only way to survive them is to cook. Your cards are classic dishes, and every battle becomes a tense attempt to satisfy a legendary appetite before it turns on you.
At the centre of the tale is a spoilt princess who has never had to work a day in her life. Thrown into a land overrun by ravenous creatures, she must learn to cook, plan and adapt as she journeys across the kingdom. The story unfolds between encounters, giving the runs a sense of progression and personality, and the hand-drawn style gives each horror a memorable look that blends menace with humour and plenty of charm.
Each card represents a traditional recipe such as Cranachan, Yorkshire Pudding, Jellied Eels or Toad in the Hole. Every horror has cravings across five flavours, and your goal is to feed it the right combination of dishes to keep its hunger in check. Serve the wrong things or run out of food and the monster grows more dangerous, so reading each creature’s tastes and building a deck around them is the heart of the strategy.
The cast draws on rich regional legends. You will face Jenny Greenteeth lurking beneath the water, the Marool from the northern seas, the headless Dullahan, the Welsh Y Fad Felen and many more creatures, each with its own preferences and tricks. Bosses such as Grendel demand careful planning across several turns, and discovering how each horror behaves is part of the fun of every new run.
Beyond battles there is plenty to manage. Fishing lets you catch extra ingredients for your menu, while familiars join your journey and support your culinary strategy with helpful effects. As you progress, new recipes enter your deck and old ones can be improved or removed, letting you shape a deck that suits your preferred style, whether that means sweet combinations, spicy chains or carefully balanced meals.
Difficulty is flexible. Vanilla mode offers a gentler experience for players who mainly want to enjoy the story, while Spicy mode raises the stakes for veterans of the genre. Culinary and Gourmet modifiers add further twists for extra replay value. Accessibility options include adjustable difficulty, keyboard-only and mouse-only controls, and no timed inputs, so you can think through every turn at your own pace.
Hungry Horrors has modest requirements, needing an Intel Core i5-750, 4 GB of RAM, a GeForce GT 630 and only 500 MB of storage on Windows, with macOS and Linux supported too. Text is available in English, Polish, German, French, Italian, Spanish and further languages. For anyone who enjoys clever card strategy, folklore and a generous helping of humour, it is a uniquely flavoured deckbuilder that is easy to recommend.
