About Mini Metro

Mini Metro is a minimalist strategy simulation game about designing a subway map for a growing city, created by the New Zealand studio Dinosaur Polo Club and released on 6 November 2015. The idea is simple: stations appear on a clean, stylised map inspired by real transit diagrams, and you draw colourful lines between them to start your trains running. Each station has a shape, and passengers are represented by small symbols showing which kind of station they want to reach, so you can read the state of your network at a glance.

The challenge grows steadily. As the city expands, new stations open in awkward places, demand rises and your existing lines quickly become overcrowded. You constantly redraw and extend routes to keep them efficient, linking busy hubs and avoiding long detours. Resources are limited: each week you receive a new locomotive and can choose an extra upgrade such as an additional line, a carriage, a tunnel, a bridge or an interchange station. Deciding where to use these few tools is the core of the strategy, because rivers and bays restrict where you can build.

A game ends when one station becomes so crowded that passengers can no longer wait, and the question is always how long you can keep the city moving. The cities are based on real places around the world, including London, Paris, New York, Saint Petersburg, São Paulo, Hong Kong and Cairo, and each one has its own geography, growth patterns and special rules. Some maps favour long lines across water, while others push you to manage dense city centres with clever interchanges and loops.

Beyond the normal mode there are extra ways to play. Extreme mode makes every line permanent once it is placed, so you have to plan carefully, while Endless mode removes overcrowding entirely and lets you build a calm, relaxing network without pressure. Daily challenges give every player the same city and conditions, and a creative mode lets you experiment freely. The calm soundtrack, generated by the network itself, and the colour-blind and night modes make Mini Metro easy to enjoy in short sessions or long evenings.
