About Scythe: Digital Edition

Scythe: Digital Edition is the official adaptation of Jamey Stegmaier’s award-winning board game, developed by The Knights of Unity and released by Asmodee Digital in June 2018. It is set in an alternate 1920s Europa after the Great War, painted in the retro-futuristic style of artist Jakub Rozalski, where farmers work the fields beneath giant diesel mechs.

You lead one of five factions, such as the Saxony Empire or the Polania Republic, each with its own starting resources, location and secret objective. Turns are about choosing actions that build an efficient engine: produce, trade, recruit, upgrade and deploy mechs. Combat relies on choices rather than dice, and you can play against two AI levels, online or in hotseat.

Key Features

  • Faithful board game adaptation – Rules handled automatically
  • Five asymmetric factions – Unique powers and secret goals
  • Engine building – Upgrade, recruit and expand
  • No-luck combat – Decided by power dials and cards
  • AI, online and hotseat – Solo or with friends

Why Buy This Game?

Scythe: Digital Edition is perfect for strategy fans who want the depth of a heavy board game without the setup and bookkeeping. Matches move quickly because the app handles every rule, and the asymmetric factions reward replaying with new tactics. Jakub Rozalski’s art looks superb on screen, and AI opponents mean you can play any time.

Related Games

Another asymmetric board game classic awaits in Root, where a woodland marquisate, bird dynasties and a rebel alliance each play by completely different rules. For a longer engine-building race, Terraforming Mars has corporations competing to make the red planet habitable through cards, tiles and projects. If you prefer a calmer tabletop adaptation, Wingspan has you attract birds to your wildlife preserves in a relaxing card engine. And Gloomhaven turns the board game format into a tactical dungeon crawl, with a party of mercenaries fighting through a sprawling campaign.
