About Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is an action game developed by Raven Software and published by LucasArts, today part of the Lucasfilm and Disney catalogue. Originally released in 2003 and available on Windows and macOS through its current digital edition since 16 September 2009, it is the final chapter of the Jedi Knight series that began with Dark Forces. You play as Jaden Korr, a new student who arrives at the Jedi Academy on Yavin 4 to learn the ways of the Force from Master Luke Skywalker, with the veteran Kyle Katarn as a mentor.
Personalisation starts immediately. You choose your character’s species, gender and appearance, then build your own lightsaber by picking a hilt and blade colour. As your training advances you can switch to dual sabers or the famous double-bladed staff saber. Combat mixes third-person lightsaber duels, with several fighting stances and acrobatic moves, with blasters, explosives and other weapons in first or third person. Force powers such as push, pull, speed, jump and mind trick grow as you spend points between missions.
The campaign uses a flexible mission structure. Within each tier you pick which assignments to take on, travelling to classic and new locations across the galaxy, from swamps and deserts to Imperial bases and Sith temples. Some missions put you behind the controls of vehicles such as swoop bikes and tauntauns, and you will face Imperial troops, mercenaries, dark Jedi cultists and huge creatures like the rancor. Late in the story you must make a decisive choice between the light side and the dark side, leading to different endings.
Multiplayer adds plenty of replay value, with six modes including free-for-all, team battles, capture the flag, the team-based Siege mode and the two-versus-one Power Duel, played across 23 arenas. Split-screen and online PvP are listed, and cloud saves are supported. The game still has an active modding community that creates new maps, skins and sabers. The violence is aimed at stormtroopers, droids and fantasy creatures, without gore. The game is rated 16 (USK 16; PEGI 12).
