Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is a tactical squad shooter developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The setting is Eastern Europe in 2008. War has broken out on the borders of Russia, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance. That is when the call goes out for the Ghosts, an elite handful of specially trained U.S. Army Green Berets armed with the latest technology and trained to use the deadliest weapons. Their mission is to spearhead the way for a NATO peacekeeping force and keep the conflict contained.
The campaign offers 23 single-player missions built around realism, tension and careful planning. You take command of your team with an intuitive command interface, giving orders and moving squads into position before every engagement. Covert operations take place in free-fire zones of the real world, where a single careless step can expose your men. The game earned its reputation through award-winning tension and deadly realism on tomorrow's battlefields, and it was named PC Gamer's Game of the Year 2001.
Your Ghosts carry standard and special-issue weapons, including the M16A2, the M4 carbine and the fearsome OICW. Choosing the right soldiers and equipment for each mission is part of the challenge, because every operation demands a different balance of firepower and stealth. The game teaches a deadly, realistic lesson in how to fight, and rewards patience, scouting and smart use of terrain far more than reckless aggression in the field.
