About ICBM: Escalation
ICBM: Escalation is a grand real-time strategy game developed by SoftWarWare and published by Slitherine Ltd. It was released on 21 November 2024 for Windows. The game plunges you into the high-stakes world of global warfare, where every decision could tip the balance between survival and annihilation. You command vast armies, develop cutting-edge technology and wield the most devastating weapons ever created to secure the supremacy of your faction in a volatile global arena.
You take charge of a continent-spanning faction and build up a powerful military force. You can construct a nuclear stockpile, research groundbreaking technology and deploy a combination of nuclear submarines, strategic bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles to cripple your adversaries. Nuclear warfare is only one of the paths to victory, though. New victory conditions emphasize conventional warfare, so you can invade enemy territory, weaken their resources and force their surrender through tactical superiority.
Progress runs through multiple technological eras, from early Cold War advancements to near-future innovations such as stealth warships and space-based weapon systems. The revamped diplomacy system adds new layers of intrigue: you can form research agreements, negotiate ceasefires and broker deals over captured territories. World-spanning measures such as international treaties that ban specific weapons open up fresh strategic possibilities and can reshape the course of a conflict.
Three modes cater to different playstyles. Standoff delivers a balanced escalation from conventional skirmishes to full-scale nuclear war, Conquest emphasizes long-term strategy and brinkmanship, and the faster Blitz Mode focuses on direct nuclear confrontation in the spirit of the original ICBM. A single-player campaign spans decades of history, starting with the Korean War and leading into speculative future scenarios. You can also compete against up to 10 players in ranked matches. ICBM: Escalation is rated USK 12.
