About The Warlock of Firetop Mountain

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a fantasy role-playing adventure developed and published by Tin Man Games. Steam release: 30 August 2016.

The 1982 Fighting Fantasy gamebook by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson becomes a living tabletop: Zagor's mountain lair assembles around a painted miniature as you move from room to room. You read the story, pick from thousands of choices and roll for skill, stamina and luck. Fights play out on a grid with GridBluff, a simultaneous turn-based system where you and the monsters commit moves at the same time and try to predict each other. Eighteen heroes, each with a personal quest and their own attacks, change both the text and the route through the mountain, and over 100 figurines wait to be collected.

Moving painted miniatures across a dungeon board is exactly what Gloomhaven does on a far larger scale, with card-driven tactical fights and a campaign that rewards careful planning. If picking a hero and diving into a dangerous run is what keeps you coming back, Slay the Spire builds that loop around deckbuilding and branching paths up a deadly tower. The predictive grid battles here also echo Into the Breach, where every enemy move is telegraphed and victory comes from outthinking the board. For choices that carry real weight between fights, The Banner Saga 2 weaves hard decisions into a hand-painted saga with turn-based combat.
