About WARNO
WARNO is a Cold War real-time strategy game developed and published by Eugen Systems, and the spiritual successor to the acclaimed Wargame series. The setting is a tense alternate history: two years after Gorbachev was overthrown in a coup by hardline communists, the dark summer of 1989 arrives and the Cold War finally turns hot. The armies of NATO and the Warsaw Pact are deployed across a divided Germany, and conflict is imminent. All that is left is the Warning Order that gives the game its name, and then World War III begins in Western Europe.
You lead the forces of six nations: the United States, West Germany, the United Kingdom and France for NATO, against the Soviet Union and East Germany for the Warsaw Pact. More than 1,000 different units are included, from conscripts and main battle tanks to mobile SAM systems, self-propelled artillery, scout helicopters, strike aircraft and fast interceptors. Famous vehicles such as the M1A1 Abrams, the MCV-80 Warrior, Leopard tanks, the SU-25 Frogfoot and the Mi-24 Hind all appear. In the Armory you can inspect and compare every unit in detail before taking it to the front.
Battlegroup building is at the heart of WARNO. You choose a famous military formation as the parent division, then decide your economy of forces and customise your troops. On the battlefield, the latest version of the Eugen engine simulates modern land and air combat with detailed maps full of hills, villages, dense forests, rivers, bridges and industrial zones. Ambushes and flanking moves matter, and the frontline shifts as you advance. Five turn-based Army General campaigns near the Fulda Gap let you command whole divisions, and eight scripted Operations tell tense stories of the conflict.
The GOG version of WARNO is developed and published by Eugen Systems and runs on 64-bit Windows. It is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese, and the GOG release also includes the free Reinforcement Packs that add more content to the game. You can fight skirmish battles against a challenging AI, and helpful tools such as pre-combat orders, rules of engagement and AI-assisted Smart Orders make it easier for newcomers. It suits fans of military history, modern warfare and deep tactical strategy who want an authentic, meticulously researched Cold War battlefield.
