About Oaken
Oaken is a tactical roguelite with deck management, developed by Laki Studios and published by Goblinz Publishing and Surefire.Games, with its full release in July 2023. Its world is a mythical place, existing in a space and time that is not easily defined, stretched among the branches of the Great Oak. The inhabitants are spirits who listen to the same voice, called the Oak Song. When that voice is lost, a series of events begins, leading to a struggle that may either heal or destroy the Great Oak.
Battles take place on a hexagonal grid, and they are highly tactical: position and rotation are everything. Where a unit stands and which way it faces decide how attacks land and how well it defends, so every move needs thought. Your hero leads the campaign, and you manage a deck of cards that brings spirits and spells onto the board. Between fights you upgrade your spells and spirits the way you want, shaping a style that suits the challenges ahead.
Each run crosses a randomly generated world map with plenty of levels, bosses and events to discover, giving the roguelite structure lasting variety. The mystical setting carries celtic and tribal vibes, with hand-crafted spirits and natural landscapes rooted in the branches of the Great Oak. Easy to learn and hard to master, the game offers both a chill mode and a challenge mode, so relaxed players and seasoned tacticians can each find the right pace.
